Description
Firefly Arts (formerly West Lothian Youth Theatre) has been delivering creative opportunities for children and young people across West Lothian since 1990. We offer weekly drama, filmmaking and scriptwriting classes for young people aged 5–25, where participants work together to create original performances, films and creative projects.
What makes Firefly different is that young people shape the creative direction of our work. Through our Youth Board (spaces available for autumn 2026). and weekly sessions, they help decide the themes, stories and artistic content we explore, ensuring our work reflects the issues that matter most to them. Their ideas influence not only what we create but also how the organisation develops.
Our sessions are open to everyone, including children and young people who are neurodivergent, have additional support needs, experience anxiety or low confidence, or simply want to be part of a creative community. No previous experience is needed, and everyone is encouraged to participate at their own pace.
Alongside developing creative skills, participants build confidence, communication, teamwork and resilience while forming lasting friendships and having a genuine voice in the creative process.
We are committed to ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation. Our sessions are heavily subsidised to keep them affordable, and free or fully funded places are available for families and young people who would otherwise be unable to attend.
